THE ROLE OF PHYSICIAN IN THE PROCESS OF PATIENT’S ACCEPTING THE DISEASE

In a majotity of cases, strokes entails minor or major level of disability. Only in a small percentage of patients, the treatment results in complete regression of neurologic deficit. After stroke, patients must learn to live with an arrey of restrictions in various fields of life, which is frequently quite difficult to accomplish. In many of them, the disease and its nonacceptance became the source of chronic stress, which in turn exerts unfavorable effects upon the course of treatement and may led to family psychodinamic disturbances, even to decompensation. Patient’s family memebers act in an overprotective way or push the patient too hard to complay with therapeutic procedutes. the role of the physician is to help the patient in the process of accepting the disease.
