THE APPLICABILITY OF MERCURY INTRUSION POROSIMETRY FOR NONWOVEN POROSITY DETERMINATION
This paper summarize the findings and own experiences regarding the possibility of using the method of mercury intrusion porosimetry for nonwoven fabrics. Research was performed on needle-punched and thermal-bonded nonwoven fabrics with different construction, and taken from the production programme of cleaning cloth producer. Total porosity was measured with Pascal 140 mercury porosimeter by applying a controlled increasing pressure. The comparison analysis between the theoretical and experimental values of total porosity was performed showing that mercury intrusion porosimetry is suitable method for porosity determination. The average deviation of porosity measurements determined with mercury porosimetry was 7, 8 %.
