Dual-polarized beamwidth-reconfigurable Fabry-Pérot antenna in monolithic MEMS technology

An X-band Fabry-Pérot (FP) antenna whose beamwidth can be dynamically controlled via MicroElectroMechanical Systems (MEMS) elements is presented. The MEMS elements and the partially reflective surface (PRS) are monolithically integrated for optimal performance, achieving very low loss in the PRS and thereby high antenna radiation efficiency. In addition, the antenna operates in dual-linear polarization with independent beamwidth control of each polarization. Detailed simulation and measurement results fully validate the proposed approach.
