Monitoring of oxidative stress markers in patient with acute myocardial infarction
Intention was to estimate the severity and course of myocardial infarction by measuring autoantibodies against oxidized LDL, total antioxidative status (TAS) and activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) . The findings obtained suggest that the changes of values of these novel analytes, beside the standard assays of cardiospecific enzymes (CK, CKMB, LDH, AST, ALT) are suitable for follow up of the disease and prediction of the outcome. That could be useful also for estimation of the severity of the oxidative stress and the illness itself. The case studied has, due to the agreement of the clinical outcome and the results of the assays used, proven credibility of the hypothesis on the involvement of systemic oxidative stress and ischemia/reperfusion type of injury (cardiac infarction). Thus, the results obtained were in agreement with the basic hypothesis of the study and the literature data, giving support to ongoing further studies on the role of oxidative stress in cardiovascular diseases aimed to improve diagnosis and therapy of the patients.
