Correlation of the infections of the genital tract of women and their lifestyle with the frequency of micronuclei

Problem statement: The level of cytogenetic damage of the vaginal epithelial cells in the patients with the symptoms of genital infections was assessed by micronucleus test. Methods: 197 women in the age range from 18 to 65 years were subjected to Pap test, cervical swabs for the presence of bacteria, yeasts, and hrHPV DNA. Separate samples of vaginal secretion were taken for micronucleus assay. The participants also completed questionnaire containing 37 questions about the lifestyle, working habits and general health status. Multivariate analysis methods were used for statistical evaluation. Results: Number of micronuclei per 1000 binucleated cells ranged from 0 to 22 with the median value of 6 MN that is very similar to world average the median value of 6.5 MN per 1000 cells. Conclusion: Multivariate analysis showed good, statistically significant correlations between predictor variables connected to the lifestyle and the frequency of micronuclei. Positive correlation was also determined between the frequency of MN and the results of Pap tests and cervical swabs.
