The efficiency of small enterprises and their impact on economic development: a case of Croatian and Slovenian enterprises
This is a research regarding the impact of small enterprises of the overall development of the economy in transitional countries, specifically, the economies of Craotia and Slovenia. Particular emphasis is placed on comparing the efficiency of small enterprises in both countries and trying to identify the factors that may have contributed to differencies in efficiency nad growth in the last five years. Based on the statistical data, we try to predict future development and its impact on overall economies in both countries. The hypothesis expressed in the null form which must be tested over the long term, is that small enterprises, in both countries, will decrease in number and will have decling importance from an efficiency point of view. Over the five year period covered by the research, the growth rate of small enterprises has declined, while the efficiency measures have been stagnant or slightly incerased and the profit rates low.
