Comparison of different digested residues from biogas production with emphasise on heavy metals
Different types of biomass can be used for biogas production, where biomass contents largely determine the production and the quality of biogas. Animal farms and slaughterhouses are the largest sources of organic waste for biogas production plants. By-product of biogas production is digested residue, which can be used as environmentally friendly manure. The aim of this paper is to determine the differences in the quality of the digested residue and levels of heavy metals in the digested residue from biogas production. Four different input raw materials were used: swine manure, cattle manure, poultry manure, and first category of slaughterhouse waste. The investigations included chemical analysis (pH, electrical conductivity, dry matter, burning residue, and burning loss, C, N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Mn, Zn, Cu, Fe, Pb, Cd, Ni, As, Hg, Co and Cr). The investigations showed that all samples were mildly alkaline ; the biogenic elements were found in moderate concentrations, while heavy metals were within the approved limits. The N:P:K analysis, the found values of biogenic elements and of heavy metals allow for the conclusion that digested residue of all input raw materials can be applied in the agricultural production, particularly in crops production and grassland cultivation.
