Multimedia Adaptations of the Grimm's Fairy Tales: Possibilities and Limits
Interactive multimedia stands for the possibility of active relationship between the media and the users. Interactivity and dynamism are the basic components of multimedia processing of children’s literature texts. Such adaptations are interesting to children not only because of the stories they offer, but also, to a greater extent, due to the possibility of testing computers and elements of game. However, it is exactly this attractiveness that should be made use of, and the children should be offered quality educational software. It is our aim to analyze how a literary text, particularly Grimm's fairy tales becomes interactive, whether there are any patterns in the multimedia processing of a fairy tale, and its influence on the user. It is also important to see if the multimedia software is made in a manner faithful to the original texts or not. Besides electronic processing of literary works should presuppose certain literary and theoretical, educational, didactic, psychological and communicational norms. Uncontrolled and incompetent multimedia production could be more harmful than useful, because, among others, of the very specific symbolism of the fairy tales which should not be changed or misinterpreted.
