On Potentials and Constraints of ICT in Education
Examining the potentials and constraints of educational implementation of ICT, the authors have analysed the advocates’ arguments for the constructivist approach to a design instruction based on the ICT usage. They conclude that, in spite of the dominance of constructivist viewpoints in the discourse on educational ICT usage, some critical insights into constructivism as a theory, which represents a basis for the learning and teching strategies, are missing. They hypothesize that effective implementation of ICT into education primarily depends on teacher’s epistemic personal theory of learning and teaching. The authors of this paper consider that stronger connections between the theoretical priciples of constructivism and educational ICT implementation practice comply with a necessary condition for resolving the controversial issues of educational ICT usage.
