Impact of technological intensity on success of integration processes

Integration processes represent inherent part of contemporary business world, and also a research field of numerous scientists and consultants since the end of 20th century. Through mergers and acquisitions companies try to retain and strengthen their market position as well as achieve their development goals. Despite the increasing popularity of mergers and acquisitions, it has been reported that the rate of M&A failure is from 55 to 70 percent, so there is a need for analysis of variables that impact M&A success. Researchers usually point out corporate culture and other internal organizational variables as the most common explanation of high failure rate for M&A while little attention is given to external organizational variables. Therefore, this paper examines the impact of technological intensity, as an external organizational variable, on the success of integration processes i.e. success of takeovers. Hypothesis according to which the higher the technological intensity of the target company's industry, the higher is probability of more successful target company's performance after the takeover is tested within empirical research. Empirical research is conducted on the sample of Croatian companies that were taken over last twelve years.
