Design Methodology for Masonry Infilled Reinforced- Concrete Frames With Openings
Masonry infill, with- or without opening, placed within the reinforced-concrete frame increases strength and stiffness of the system, but decreases its deformation capacity. Current structural regulations consider only its detrimental effects. Presented is the methodology that takes into account positive influence of masonry infill with opening in design of reinforced-concrete (r-c) frame structures under earthquake loading. It is based on the experimentally determined force-displacement relationship and equivalent diagonal strut approach used for the infill. Then, the correction factors that take into account opening’s influence are introduced. They consider opening’s size and position into account for design thus enabling the complete “framed-wall” design.
