In this article the author first describes the difference between shares and bonds. He lists the rights of shareholders of a joint stock company. When reffering to the value of shares, the author sets the difference between their face value, their bank value and market value and describes certain theoretic models which explain the value of shares in relation to a dividend, that is the part of the company's profit which goes to one share. The absolut amount of a dividend is not the same as dividend rate, which tells what is our «interest» on a share. By using a special equation one can calculate the rate of return on a share for one year as well as the current value of share.
