E. M. Forster's A Passage to India Through David Lean's Film Adaptation
The diploma thesis focuses on the very-well known adaptation based on E. M. Forster‘s novel A Passage to India published in 1924 and adapted in 1984 by David Lean. A Passage to India examines racial misunderstandings and cultural hypocrisies that characterized the complex interactions between two nations. It is about people who want to connect and overcome the stereotypes and biases that have divided the two cultures. This work offers historical background of both the novel and the film, with emphasis on their similarities and differences, paying special attention to prevailing relationships between the main characters. The main concern of this work is a comparative analysis of the novel and the film adaptation, the way in which David Lean reinterpreted Forster’s A Passage to India.
