Classical Hollywood Narrative Style
The paper focuses on the classical Hollywood narrative style, which is the most commonly used technique in the film industry. The paper also elaborates its characteristics and technical aspects. Since David Bordwell is generally considered the most important film theorist of the classical Hollywood narrative style, a few facts based on his theory are presented. Furthermore, the differences between classical narrative style and film noir, which appeared during and after World War II, are explained. In the last part of the paper, the characteristics of the classical Hollywood narrative style are presented through the examples of Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds, Howard Hawks' Bringing Up Baby, and Frank Capra's It Happened One Night.
