Croatian League Against Rheumatism - where are we now?

The Croatian League Against Rheumatism (CLAR) is a non-profit citizen's group for social, educational and promotional purposes in rheumatology. The League's basic activity is to provide information and education. It promotes inclusion of rheumatic patients as active participants. CLAR was founded 17 years ago. Nowdays, it is a respectable association with around 3800 members, in 12 county branches. The League has four committees and five medical sections. It is a member of several international associations. CLAR carries out different activities like organizing and holding popular lectures and public discussions, writing articles in popular publications and participate in TV and radio programs aiming to increase awareness about rheumatic diseases. CLAR is one of founders of the Croatian National Board for Bones and Joins Decade proclaimed by WHO. In the last few years activities were more intense in October, a month in which we annotate the Bones and Jones Decade. CLAR regularly publishes its journal named „Reuma“, 2-3 times a year, with 4200 copies each issue, free of charge. It has published 26 booklets for patients, in which the most common rheumatic diseases as well as themes common to all rheumatic patients have been elaborated. We develop partnerships with non-rheumatic patients associations and with international leagues of rheumatic patients. Since 2005, as part of CLAR, support groups (SUPRA groups) are being active in the city of Zagreb. Their members have been acting regularly and proactively gathering about 3 times a month with an aim of everyday medical exercise, health eating habits, education, PC handling and society netting. Our main future aims are greater membership, organizing regularly exercises, enlarge a number of lectures as well as ensure spaces for gathering patients with rheumatic diseases. New booklets will be edited, too. We would like to contribute more to the cultural artistic movement, develop partnership with companies aiming to raise funds and promote volunteer work.
