Critical Situations and Water Management Issues in Vransko Lake Nature Park
The natural balance of the hydrological system of Vransko Lake near Biograd has been disturbed by the construction of the Prosika drainage canal, due to which the lake more and more frequently experiences critical situations caused by the low lake water levels and by the salinization of its water. At the same time, this is a particularly valuable Ramsar site, with such critical situations representing a risk of reduction of biodiversity of ornithological fauna, as well as the degradation of flora and fauna of the lake itself. It is therefore necessary to provide technical preconditions (construction of a gate with a fish pass) to control the discharge of water from the lake and keep the water level close to the conditions favourable for particularly endangered species, as well as to perform active monitoring and management of the lake system.
