Genetic Algorithm In Ship Hull Form Optimization
The paper presents a computational method developed for solving the minimum ship wave resistance problem. The numerical method for solving the three-dimensional potential flow around a ship moving at constant speed in calm water is based upon a Rankine source method. The boundary conditions are exactly satisfied on the hull, while the free surface condition is linearized using the double model solution. To approach numerically the minimum wave resistance problem, the computer program developed on the basis of the method has been coupled with the genetic algorithm. The potentiality of the developed optimization procedure is demonstrated by selecting the Series 60, CB=0.60 hull as mother-model for developing the optimal forms. The numerical results of optimization procedure indicate that the optimized hull form yields a reduction in wave resistance.
