Demand for Nautical Tourism in Europe - Case Study Croatia
The chapter is devoted to the analysis of nautical tourism demand in Croatia. In the introductory section the author explains the concept of nautical tourism and lists some controversies related to its definition, following by the explanation of the term nautical tourism used in this paper. The methodology section gives a short overview of the nautical tourism research and studies conducted in Croatia in the 2001 – 2010 period that are used as secondary data sources for the analysis presented in the paper. The size and characteristics of nautical tourism demand are presented by the specific segments of nautical tourism, separately for yachting as well as the international and domestic cruise tourism. In addition, some demand characteristics are analyzed by the most important tourist generating markets for yachting and cruise tourism in Croatia. Finally, an overview of the competitiveness of today’s yachting and cruise tourism product is given, followed by the discussion on their development opportunities in the foreseeable future.
