Content of vitamin C in leaves and flowers of Tropaeolum majus L.
Nasturtium (Tropaeolum majus L.) is an annual herbaceous plant native to South America. It has a pleasant appearance, the leaves are nearly round and permeate with thick nervature. Flowers are found in many colors, mostly yellow, orange and red. It can be high, low, creeping and often is used as a ground cover and as the protector of the orchard from aphides. Based on the findings of folk physician that are indicating on its anti- inflammatory and antifungal properties, nasturtium was recognized like healing plant and quickly became interesting in medicine, cooking and cosmetic industry. It has a wide range of effects on all systems of the human body and can heal many ailments. Results of total content of ascorbic acid showed that average content in nasturtium leaves of all four repetitions is 153, 88 mg vit C/100 g FW.
