Ratio of salt content added by irrigation with saline water and percolated from the root zone
A lysimetric investigation was carried out in specific Mediterranean agroecological conditions of the Vrana basin (Croatia). The aim of this study was to determine salt fluctuation in Vrana Lake water, as a potential suorce of irrigation water, as well as to test the changes in the soil due to the application of such water. During the investigation (1988-1992) salt concentration in water changed 5,5 times. After irrigation of vertisol the change of percolate ionic composition is evident. Quantities of calcium leached through lysimeters were considerably higher then in irrigation water. The adsorption/desorption processes may significantly modify the percolate ionic composition. Large chloride quantities were added by irrigation, but they were also leached out of the soil.
