Croatian language as a starting component of cross-curricular connections in the upper grades of elementary schools
Contemporary teaching aims at linking subjects in greater joint didactic units primarily to avoid fragmentation of instructional content, unnecessary repetitions, isolation of subjects, and dispersion of the system. Croatian language is a subject that establishes connections with other subjects, because all teaching communication is in Croatian, respectively the entire educational process is being realized by the means of Croatian language. In this paper we focus on the linguistic area of the Croatian language as a subject in order to explore the existence of cross-curricular connections between linguistic contents and contents of other subjects in the Croatian language textbooks for 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades of primary schools. The analysis of the Croatian language textbooks for higher grades of primary schools has shown that one can speak of cross-curricular connections, primarily between the Croatian language and History, the Croatian language and foreign language and the Croatian language and Biology.
