A simple route in the synthesis of CdS nanoparticles

A simple route in the synthesis of CdS nanoparticles (cubic-type) is presented. The synthesis is based on the reaction of H2S gas with a 10% aqueous solution of Cd(CH3COO)2 at room temperature The XRD pattern showed very broadened diffraction lines. The presence of CdS nanocrystallites 2-3 nm in size was estimated by the Scherrer method. The CdS nanoparticles were characterized by Raman and UV/vis spectroscopies. The FE-SEM image showed the formation of uniform CdS nanoparticles with an average size ∼20-25 nm, thus indicating that these nanoparticles consisted of very fine CdS nanocrystallites.
