Microstructural and mechanical characterization of as-cast Ti-Nb-Zr alloys for biomedical applications

Six Ti- rich alloys with niobium and zirconium were prepared from pure metals by an arc melting method. The results of SEM and X-ray analysis showed that two as-cast alloys Ti80Nb10Zr10 and Ti70Nb10Zr20 were single beta phases.These alloys according to the satisfactory hardness (375 and 420 HV) and low E- modulus values (28 and 37 GPa) could be good candidates for use in biomedicine.
