Priorities and Challenges of the Greek Presidency

The speech aimed to present and elaborate the recommendations for the Greek EU Presidency (January – July 2014) in the Inaugural Session of the Conference, which is the tradition of TEPSA. The recommendations, prepared by group of TEPSA experts focussed on eight priorities. Primarily the necessity of completing of economic and monetary union together with the need to seriously address the “growth-jobs-cohesion” package on the EU level was underlined. The priorities of Greek presidency of EU should also encompass mobilizing of all available instruments for youth employment ; they should address the maritime issues, migration and European Defence. Finally, it was suggested that the Presidency should continue supporting the EU enlargement on the Western Balkans which was marked by remarkable step forward made at the Thessaloniki Summit in 2003. In the year of European Parliamentary elections, with other European and national authorities, the Greek Presidency should work at the strengthening of the support of the citizens for the European integration process.
