National views and expectations for the future of Europe - Croatia

The presentation was a contribution to the debate launched within the THESEUS project on the issue of “political union” in Europe. It aimed to highlight the views and expectations of Croatia as the EU new member and its’ citizens regarding the political union. It was underlined that the political union is understood as a step further with the integration. With the experience of the crisis the EU needs greater integration in financial, economic and fiscal policies, primarily within Eurozone. However, those issues were not widely debated in public. The presentation approached the issues of political union through the general views on key building blocks of genuine economic and monetary union, the fiscal union, the banking union and enhanced economic policy coordination. Croatian authorities support the country’s entry to Eurozone but the timing depends on further developments within Eurozone and economic developments in Croatia.
