Modifikacija skroba i primena u procesu skrobljenja pređe
Wheat starch has been modified (oxidized) with sodium chlorite in the presence and absence of thiourea, under different conditions. It was found that the effect of oxidation depends on the presence and concentration of thiourea, the pH of the medium and the duration of oxidation process. Modified starch samples were characterized by the content of carboxylic and carbonyl groups and viscosity. The application of this modified starch as an agent for cotton yarn sizing was discussed. The results have led to some interesting observations. The percentage of decomposed chlorite increases with the increase of the concentration of thiourea (to 0.4%). Oxidative degradation of wheat starch with chlorite/thiourea system showed a significant increase in carboxyl and carbonyl groups and a significant decrease in viscosity, especially when using 0.4 % thiourea. Viscosity of wheat starch before and after oxidation decreases with increasing a shear rate. When applied as a warp sizing agent for cotton yarn, oxidized starch gives better results than the unmodified, especially in terms of uniformity of sizing, better mechanical parameters of the yarn and far easier removal from the fabric in the subsequent desizing process.
