Transient Response of a Buried Wire
The paper deals with a transient analysis of a horizontal straight thin wire buried in a lossy half-space using the rigorous approach based on the antenna theory (AT) and an approximate modified transmission line model (MTLM). The AT approach is based on the space-time and space-frequency variant of the Pocklington integro-differential approach, respectively. The effects of the earth-air interface are taken into account via the simplified reflection coefficient arising from the Modified Image Theory (MIT). The space –time Pocklington equation has been solved analytically while the space-frequnecy Pocklington equation is handled numerically by means of the Galerkin-Bubnov scheme of the Indirect Boundary Element Method (GBIBEM). The latter approach uses the inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) to obtain the corresponding transient response. The obtained numerical results are compared to the results calculated by means of the MTLM.
