Language policy in the domain of education in Croatia and Slavonia during the Austro-Hungarian period
The paper presents the use of languages in the educational domain in Croatia and Slavonia during the Austro-Hungarian period. Some data on the use of languages in the educational domain in Dalmatia have also been given for the sake of comparison. The sources used include a whole hierarchy of norms, from the constitution of 1867, through legislation to government orders. A very valuable source of information for the period between 1883 and 1922 is Službeni glasnik (The Official Gazette of the Royal Croatian-Slavonian-Dalmatian Land Government, Department for Theology and Education), where school laws, government orders, decisions, rules and regulations were published, along with a wealth of statistical data different types of schools, along with school curricula, information on school books published in a particular year, etc.
