Evaluation of possibility for liquefaction susceptibility and setting bases for liquefaction zonation in Croatia
Implementing of geologic, geotechnical site conditions and prior seismic behaviour of the area into a map results in earthquake-hazard maps, which can be used as a predictive tool for seismic policy development and emergency planning. Possible applications of these maps are various and include: identification of geological vulnerable areas with critical fa-cilities, selection of suitable areas for new facilities, prioritization of seismic upgrading programs, risk estimation etc. Croatia is a state with high seismic activity, and there were several well-documented occurrences of liquefaction during earthquakes (Dubrovnik 1667 ; Virovitica, 1757 ; Zagreb, 1880). To author's knowledge, there was no research for evaluating the possibility of onset of liquefaction at the territory of Croatia. Basic ap-proach for the liquefaction zonation in Croatia, as well as basis for specific liquefaction resistance evaluation will be presented in this paper.
