APPLICATION OF GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM IN AIRCRAFT MOVEMENT AT THE AIRPORT SPLIT APRON
The apron at the Airport Split was built in 1966 for six aircraft type Convair with some fifty seats. Twice extended, the apron accommodates today a much greater number of aircraft and they are mainly bigger than Convair. Planning of positions, movements and traffic co-ordination of aircraft type A320, A319, MD10, L1011 , which land at the airport most frequently today, are very difficult to perform. Therefore, a computer program has been developed for planning and co-ordinating aircraft traffic at the apron, in GIS (Geographic Information System) Arc View and Arc View Tracking Analyst systems. The basic function of the system is to suggest optimal aircraft movements and parking positions based on the planned and actual traffic, meeting safety spacing both in movement and in standing positions.
