Phases in groups of PTSP patients
War traumatic experience, exceptionally the experience of being captured and tortured in the PTSD patients results with essential changes in their relations towards themselves and their environment. Regression is very deep and psychic dumping is main characteristic of their emotional state. Destroyed self-estimation and basic confidence towards others has an essential impact on the character of communications arising in group therapy. At the beginning of the work of a group there prevails unconfidence and suspicion about the outcome of the therapy, while, by the end, group becomes one of rare secure media for traumatic experience and possible reconstruction of object relations. All these makes the group work with the PTSD patients specifics, significantly different from the groups of neurotic or psychotic ones. By the material we got following up 20 PTSD groups, conducted co-therapeutically, during 40 sessions, we tried to analyse group process characteristics, group development phases, resistance that arise in group, as well as transference and countertransference.
