Deformation Behavior of Thin Aluminum Plate under Equibiaxial Tension
A combined experimental and numerical study has been performed to determine the elastoplastic behavior of a thin aluminum plate under equibiaxial tension. A circular diaphragm is clamped at its periphery and bulged to a domed shape by lateral fluid pressure. The experimental load-displacement diagram is compared with the numerically obtained one using ABAQUS. It is found that the experimental and numerical results are in a good agreement. The results demonstrate that hydraulic bulging is a very convenient way of assessing the mechanical properties of thin-sheet metals at relatively high levels of plastic deformation under biaxial tension.
