Direct Foreign Investment in Transitional Countries a Case Study of Croatia
The world of ninties has introduced a number of changes in technology, communication, management and business practices. One can also notice revolutionary changes in foreign investment flows. A number of countries have liberalized their economies and tend to increase their involvement in the global economy. Direct foreign investment represents the highest level of involvement in international marketing. Transitional economies of Central and Eastern Europe are becoming incresingly interesting destinations for foreign direct investments, mainly due to their existing capacities and natural resources, as well as low production costs. In comparison to other transitional economies, Croatia is lagging behind considering the direct foreign investment inflow. It is mainly due to high risk political environment in the last decade. Croatian government is working hard on promotion of foreign investment into Croatian economy. The efforts are concentrated on legislative, economic and political activities. However, the direct foreign invesment inflow does not depend only on Croatia, but also on international economic and political environment.
