Hereditary and environmental effects on cadmium status in maize plants
In this study survey of leaf-Cd (the ear-leaf at silking stage) status in maize genotypes was shown. The highest leaf-Cd of the OsSK602 (0.320 mg Cd kg-1) was close to 5 fold higher than of the lowest leaf-Cd of the OsSK497 and OsSK552 (0.066 mg Cd kg-1) hybrid. Leaf-Cd among 20 hybrids was in range from 0.07 to 0.21 mg Cd kg-1. Seven parents and their 21 F1 diallel crosses were grown under field conditions on two soils (fluvisol and pseudogley). Mean leaf-Cd were 0.064 and 0.195 mg Cd kg-1, for fluvisol and pseudogley, respectively. Differences in level of genotype were from 0.040 to 0.581 mg Cd kg-1. Leaf-Cd differences among the hybrids of the same parent were from 0.047 (Bc265-1) to 0.105 (Bc707-1) mg Cd kg-1.
