Improvement of acid soil and field crops yield by liming with fertdolomite.
The effect of liming on field crops yields and some grain quality parameters were studied in a field trial in the central Croatia. The experiment with increasing rates (0, 5, 10, 20 and 40 t ha-1) of fertdolomite (24.0% CaO, 16.0% MgO, 3.0% N, 2.5% P2O5 and 3.0% K2O) has been conducted in autumn 2008 on the acid stagnosol. Maize (2009), wheat (2010) and barley (2011) were grown in rotation. Liming moderately affected maize and wheat yields, but increased barley yields up to 50%. Soil pH and phosphorus availability were considerably improved. Significant influence on wheat grain quality was found (protein 12.91% and 13.85%, wet gluten 31.7 and 35.2%, sedimentation 39.6 and 51.6 ml, for the control and 40 t lime ha- 1, respectively). Also, protein contents in barley grain were increased up to 3.32%.
