Parental estimation of outcome after cochlear implantation varies with the age of the child at implantation
The survey results were more balanced among groups than had been expected. In all age groups, parental responses on the questionnaire justified implantation. Nevertheless, nearly all suboptimal results occurred in children undergoing implantation after 10 years of age. From a parental point of view, it appears that 10 years old is the critical age for good postoperative results, even in children receiving extensive rehabilitation prior to implantation.
