Potter from Potravlje

In certain villages in Cetinska krajina, pottery craft has been developed through centuries, which is today preserved only in Potravlje - a small village near town of Sinj. In this centre of pottery, ceramic vessels are made on a hand wheel called čekrk. Until World War Two in Cetina area there were around fifty and in Potravlje twenty or so families which were making dishes out of clay.The tradition of pottery craft in Potravlje has been continued from generation to generation. The members of the Knezovic family from Potravlje coming from the renown family of pottery makers, are the last who are making traditional pottery dishes out of clay on the pottery wheel using a thousand-year old technique. During her staying in Potravlje Zrinka Šimić-Kanaet visited potter who revealed her secrets of his craft and on this occasion she made a short film. The main "actor" is mr. Dušan Knezović who is still making pots in the traditional way.
