New concept of cuttlebone growth and design: lamellar structure at the nanoscale
Numerous mollusks form bioinorganic solids with the sophisticated designs to support their life functions and environmental adaptation. Recent studies point out that biomineral structures are formed through nanoscale aggregation processes. The aim of this investigation was to determine the similar processes in the formation of cuttlebone chambers and to complement existing findings relating to the nanoscale aggregation processes in the shaping of biomineral structures.
