Detector-to-detector Compton scattering of gamma rays in germanium
(Part of abstract) The differential cross-setion of Compton scattering in germanium was measured by observing detector-to-detector scattering. The experiment was performed at incident photon energy of 59.537 keV and an average scattering angle of 170 degrees. The coincidence technique and the requirement of constant energy sum produced a spectrum with very little background. This allowed an accurate determination of the Comptom spectrum above and below the Compton peak. The spectrum was calculated using the impulse approximation, including contributions from electrons in all germanium shells.
