Shabtis from Archaeological Museum in Zagreb, Croatia

The Archaeological museum in Zagreb is the owner of 312 shabtis which were collected during the long period of time, from 1865 to nowadays, from various sources. Most are of unknown provenance. This analysis showed that the artefacts are genuine. They were crafted between Middle Kingdom and 3rd c. AD. During my own analysis I selected the most interesting artefacts, photographed them, then made a according to periods, Schneider types and inventory numbers. The Selection and analysis of shabtis presented in this dissertation showed that almost all known types and forms of shabtis can be found in the Archaeological museum in Zagreb. Most of them have not had any artistic value, they are just one of thousands of similar shabtis that can be seen in various similar museums, but in the same time there are several pieces (eg. E-277, E-286, E-289, E3-307, E-309, E-549) that every museum would not mind having in their collections. The biggest number of shabtis does not have any hieroglyphic inscriptions on it and they were mostly made during Late period or Ptolemaic dynasty. In some cases names or full shabti spells can be read which allow us to determine who was the original owner of these shabtis or even in which graves they were placed as part of common funerary equipment.
