The influence of casting speed on microstructure and hardness of continuously casted CuAlNi shape memory alloy
In this paper the influence of casting speed on microstructure and microhardness of continuously casted CuAlNi shape memory alloy was investigated. CuAlNi alloy bar with diameter of 8 mm was casted by vertical continuous casting procedure at several casting speed within the range from 295 mm min-1 to 365 mm min-1. The microstructural characterization was obtained by light microscopy (LM), scanning electron microscopy (EDS) and energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS). Thermal analysis was obtained by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). On all samples a martensitic microstructure was observed, and the value of microhardness increases with the increasing of casting speed. During heating the influence of casting speed on alloys transformation temperatures was noticed, while during cooling no significant difference in phase transformation temperatures was observed.
