The use of numerical simulation for prediction of pollutant emissions in diesel engines
Diesel engines power most of the world vehicles and release great amount of pollutants that affect environment and human health. Knowing that fact, it is necessary to lower pollutants such as NOx, soot, CO and HC to a minimum value. Numerous investigations are used to determine how various factors like design, fuel injection, fuel-air mixing, combustion etc., influence pollutant emissions. The understanding of these complex processes in experimental investigations is limited and this understanding can be significantly improved by use of numerical modeling and simulations. This paper shows how numerical simulations in combination with existing experimental data can be used for good prediction of pollutant emissions released from internal combustion diesel engine. The results of numerical simulation are compared with experimental data.
