Numerical simulation of Diesel engine combustion: Eulerian-Eulerian versus Eulerian-Lagrangian model
The numerical modelling of the high injection pressure is usually modelled with Eulerian- Lagrangian approach. The gas phase is treated as continuum and the transport equations are solved for this phase. The liquid phase is represented by parcels and ordinary differential equations are solved to track their motion. Another way for modelling the spray proces is Eulerian-Eulerian approach where both the gas and the liquid phase are treated as continuum and the conservation equations are solved also for the liquid phase. The topic of the presentation is to show the differences between these two approaches.
