Acoustic Energy Output of a Low Frequency Ultrasonic Surgical Equipment
The aim of this article is to define necessary acoustic energy that is brought to the operational area during the standard procedure with the ultrasonic surgical knife. The acoustic energy, and like wise acoustic power depends on the ultrasonic probe operational frequency, displacement of the probe tip and load of the media that surrounds the probe tip. In real operational conditions it is possible that ultrasonic probe tip act as a point source of the omnidirectional spherical wave, but when the probe tip operates near the "soft" or "rigid" boundary the sound source can be described as acoustic dipole.
