Theoretical prediction of TNAZ detonation properties
TNAZ (1, 3, 3 trinitroazetidine) is a relatively new, powerful, steam castable, strained ring explosive that is of considerable interest to the energetic materials community. Results of the calculation of detonation properties of TNAZ using chemical equilibrium computer program EXPLO5 based on the Becker-Kistiakowsky-Wilson equation of state are presented in this paper. It was found out that TNAZ has detonation velocity and pressure nearly that of the most powerful standard high explosive HMX, and higher than that of commonly used high explosives (RDX, PETN, TNT, etc.). It was also found out that TNAZ has the detonation temperature and the detonation heat greater than that of any other high explosive considered, making TNAZ attractive as an ingredient in composite explosives.
