Firm survival in European Post-transition countries
This study focuses on firm survival in European Post-transition countries. Survival of the firms plays important role in preserving jobs and economic growth, a key issues both in economic research and policy making. The determinants of firm survival are heterogeneous and the likelihood of survival differs across firms, industries and countries. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to identify firm survival trends and link them to different firm, industry and country characteristics. Eurostat data is used to track different survival rates of firms across different sections of economic activities according to NACE Rev. 2 classification over the four-year available period of time. Survival rates are examined within the first four years since establishment as it is expected that firms are less likely to survive during this period. The heterogeneity in survival rates can serve as indicator for economic policy creators in finding instruments aimed at increasing the likelihood of survival and, hence, the economic growth itself.
