Total Quality Management in Food Industry
Due to its size and potential, the European common market has imposed new conditions of work and development on every productionplant. Apart from the fact that the establishing of this market was a political imperative. It has created opportunities for radical changes in industry and the economy. The strategy of the nineties is product and service quality assurance. The new European common market has led to increased competition among food producers, which has in turn increased the demand for the quality and safety of food products. Food insutries and distributors are showing an increasing awareness of the fact that quality issues will play a central role in the future. The ISO 9000 ff (EN 29000) norms provide a suitable framework for installing structures to maintain and manage quality. A new system of total quality management has been developed with a view to improving the qulity management system set up by the ISO 9000 ff norms. Total quality management is a goal to which alll successful companies now aspire in order to become even more successful and thus assure their continued presence on the international market. These systems and some of their implications in the food industry will be discussed.
