Use of Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing in Cable Television Systems
Modern hybrid fiber coax cable television (CATV) networks provide communication medium that is suitable for a wide range of communication applications. There is very strong demand for more communication bandwidth and there are several different ways to meet this demand. One of them is dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM). It is used for increase of transmitted information with a significantly lower cost than installing new fiber. This paper considers advantages, drawbacks and some difficulties when DWDM is deployed in Fiber to the curb (FTTC) CATV system.
