Electromotive force of the superionic phase of copper-selenide
The electromotive force (EMF) of the Cu/solid electrolyte/Cu2−xSe/Pt cell has been measured for compositions from Cu2Se to Cu1.75Se and temperatures from 140 to 240°C. The improved experimental arrangement increased the precision of measurements. The EMF temperature dependence, which is found to be linear and composition- independent, is attributed to the ionic chemical potential. The composition dependence of EMF is attributed to electronic holes. From the fits we obtained that the valence band is parabolic with the hole effective mass m*/me =2.69+-0.2 independently of temperature and composition. The edge of the band is supposedly distorted as an effect of the cation disorder.
