Permanent threshold shift analysis of diesel traction engine drivers
Airborne and structure-borne noise of different sources results in high intensity low frequency noise within Diesel-type traction cabs. This noisy working environment affects significantly engine driver’s health and can cause lots of physiological and psychological effects. Reduced speech intelligibility combined with driver’s hearing loss decreases communication quality between drivers and/or dispatchers and considerably influences driving safety. The paper presents Permanent Threshold Shift analysis of 44 randomly sampled male engine drivers in Republic of Croatia. Relations between hearing loss at distinctive frequencies with respect to exposure time defined by the working age of respondents have been studied and discussed. Percent disability of hearing impairment according to Fowler-Sabine method have been also presented and analyzed.
